6. Offline Mode and Data Synchronisation

Overview

This article explains how CAMS Mobile works in offline mode and how synchronisation is handled when internet connectivity is restored.

For Inspectors

This article outlines how inspectors can continue working in offline environments, and how their data is saved and synced when reconnected to the internet.

Offline Access

  • CAMS Mobile supports full offline inspections.

  • Before going offline, open the app and complete a sync while connected to the internet to ensure all necessary data is cached.

  • Cached data typically includes:

    • Assigned inspections

    • Asset information

    • Location and hierarchy structures

    • Required forms and configurations

Tip: If data hasn’t been synced prior to going offline, certain assets or inspection templates may be unavailable.

To learn more about offline storage behaviour, see: Offline Data Caching in CAMS.

Working in Offline Mode

  • Inspections can be conducted as usual in offline mode.

  • All changes are stored locally on the device until synced.

  • You can enter data, attach photos, complete sections, and save inspections while disconnected.

Note: Some mobile validation rules may not be applied until data is synced, depending on your organisation's settings.

For more details on offline inspection workflow, see: Conducting Offline Inspections.

Synchronising Data

  • Every time an inspector presses Save, the app will attempt to sync the record to the server immediately-whether or not the inspection is marked as complete.

  • If the device is offline, the save action is queued until a connection is re-established.

  • When the device reconnects, sync begins automatically in the background.

  • If any issues arise-such as conflicts or validation errors-the app will display a notification or require input from the user.

Tip: Always check for a successful sync indicator before logging out or closing the app.

To understand more about sync behaviour and background processes, see: Data Sync Timing in CAMS.

Conflict Resolution Logic

When multiple inspectors have access to the same assets, overlapping inspection entries may occur. CAMS follows a latest-inspection-wins policy:

  • The inspection record with the latest completion timestamp will always override earlier entries, regardless of whether the user was online or offline.

  • This ensures the most recent version of the data is retained.

  • If both users complete inspections offline, the record completed last will still take precedence once synced.

Note: To prevent accidental overwrites, inspectors should communicate and coordinate if working on the same assets.

For Administrators

Administrators are responsible for configuring which data is available offline and how sync behaviours are managed.

For setup details on offline access and sync schedules, refer to the Mobile Configuration Overview.
