Mobile Hierarchy Configuration (Step 1 of Mobile Configuration)

Overview

This is the first step of the mobile configuration workflow. It allows Admins only to define which hierarchy will be used as the Primary Hierarchy for inspections in the CAMS Mobile App.

The primary hierarchy is used for navigation, filtering, and structuring inspection data. It typically reflects the physical layout of assets, such as campuses, buildings, floors, rooms, zones, or other client-defined levels.

Note: Hierarchies and their levels are predefined in the module configuration and may differ between clients. Admins can only select from the available list of hierarchies. The structure itself cannot be changed in this step.

For Inspectors

This step is not available to Inspectors. The Admin team sets up the mobile navigation structure and filtering hierarchy on your behalf.

For Admins

Selecting the Hierarchy

Select the appropriate Primary Hierarchy from the dropdown list. This determines how users will navigate locations or inspection areas in the mobile app.

Once selected, click Save to link the hierarchy to the module.

Important: If data collection has already begun using this hierarchy, you will not be able to change it without either completing all active inspections or deleting any completed inspection records that rely on the existing hierarchy.

Note: If mobile data has already been prepared, you may need to reprocess it to apply changes.

Level Configuration

Each level in the selected hierarchy can be customised and viewed in the Level Configuration section. For each level you can view and manage:

  • Level Key – The system-defined name or ID of the level (cannot be changed).

  • Display Name – The name shown to users in the mobile app. This can be edited using the pencil icon.

  • Depend on Previous Field – Indicates if this level's values are filtered by a higher level in the hierarchy. This is turned on by default.

  • Inspectable – Identifies whether inspections can be carried out at this level. Currently, this feature is not available. Please keep a lookout for future modifications.

  • Edit – Allows you to rename the display label or configure dependencies for that level.

Tip: Typically, only the final level (e.g. “Room”, “Zone”, “Partition”) is set as Inspectable. Higher levels are used for navigation and filtering only.

Note: You can change the Display Name for any level to suit your terminology by clicking the edit icon. However, the hierarchy levels themselves are fixed as per the module's configuration.
