Understanding the Mobile Component Download Limit

Overview

To keep CAMS Mobile responsive and reliable, there is a limit on how many components can be stored on a mobile device. This guide explains how the limit works, what happens when it is reached, how it resets, and how to manage your downloads effectively.

What is the 2500 Component Limit?

CAMS Mobile allows up to 2,500 components to be stored on a device at any one time. This is referred to as the mobile component limit.

The app checks how many components are already on your device before starting a new download. It does not consider how many components you're about to download.

For example:

  • If your device already has 2,400 components and you attempt to download 100 more, the download will go ahead.

  • The app only blocks the download if you already have 2,500 or more components on your device.

Note: Performance may vary slightly depending on your device, network, and app version.

How can I check how many components are currently downloaded?

You can check your current component count directly from within the CAMS Mobile app

[Functionality Coming Soon]:

  • Open the CAMS Mobile app on your device

  • Select the Reporting tab located in the bottom panel
  • Look for the number shown next to Components Stored or Downloaded Components

This value reflects how many components are currently stored on your device and counted toward the 2,500 limit.

What happens if the limit is reached?

If your device already has 2,500 components stored, any new download will be blocked. A message will appear indicating that the limit has been reached [Functionality Coming Soon], and the system will stop the download from starting.

To continue downloading, you must reduce the number of components on your device.

How is the component count reduced?

Components are removed from your device in two ways:

  • Automatically: When inspections are completed and successfully synced, their associated components are cleared from the device.

  • Manually: You can use the clear data button in the Reporting tab (located in the bottom panel) to remove all downloaded data. [Functionality Coming Soon]

Note: Any unsynced inspections must be uploaded before clearing data to avoid losing inspection records.

Why is there a limit?

The mobile component limit exists to:

  • Prevent performance issues

  • Avoid delays or crashes caused by excessive local data

  • Encourage focused downloads based on current inspection needs

This default limit may be reviewed and adjusted over time based on feedback and technical updates.

Best Practice: Download Lower-Level Components

To make the most of mobile downloads:

  • Download data at lower levels of the hierarchy (such as by room or partition)

  • Avoid downloading full datasets in a single batch

  • Download smaller, targeted batches as needed

For example: Instead of downloading all buildings in the system, select a specific component group or asset category that’s relevant to your current inspection area.
